The current crisis will hit disadvantaged young people the hardest. These are pupils who are already struggling academically and the absence of education, and any other means of support, will simply leave them further behind.
Now Teach is working with Action Tutoring, a charity supporting these pupils to progress academically. It engages volunteers as tutors to provide tailored support to help these young people overcome the obstacles they're facing. Volunteers don't need any previous experience, the charity provides the required training and the tutoring workbooks.
The commitment for volunteers is small, just an hour a week for 8-10 weeks and from September tutoring will be able to take place both in person in schools (if social distancing restrictions allow) and via an online platform. Opportunities available in English and maths at both primary and secondary level.
Academic support, like this, will be needed by pupils more than ever before to help make up for the time lost. You can make a difference.
Many Now Teachers tell us that spending time in a school helped them decide teaching was for them or helped make their school interview a success.
