Yesterday, Now Teach moved from a charitable venture, incubated by Ark, to an independent charity. This move is a reflection of the incredible support we’ve received and the success and growth we’ve experienced over the last few years.
In our first four years we have recruited more than 350 experienced career changers into teaching, from CEOs and lawyers to hostage negotiators and NASA scientists. We connect them with teacher training providers and schools, collaborating with both throughout training and beyond to ensure Now Teachers remain in the profession long term.
Over the years we have grown in numbers, locations, contexts and depth of impact, this year recruiting our biggest cohort yet and expanding further into the South East, Birmingham and East Anglia.
Commenting on the occasion, Clare Geldard, Executive Director said:
‘This move to independence is the culmination of the hard work and successes of the team over the last four years, of whom I’m hugely proud.’
Katie Waldegrave, Co-founder of Now Teach said:
‘This is an important moment for Now Teach. We could not have got going so quickly or effectively without the support and faith of Ark and I will always be grateful to Lucy Heller and her team for taking a punt on the idea and agreeing to incubate us. We have successfully grown into an independent organisation working with over 40 MATs/schools and HEI providers and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Ark as we expand and support more Now Teachers.’
Lucy Kellaway, Co-founder, added:
‘We are eternally grateful to Ark for helping us get started and now, nearly four years in, we are big and mature enough to be independent. This is an exciting moment for us.’
Chair of Now Teach, Graeme Danton, said:
‘This marks an exciting new stage for Now Teach, as we move from incubated venture to a phase of growth and expansion.’
